Our Approach

Good Work Research Group (GWRG) conducts high quality, independent research to understand and strengthen the role of employment services and job quality in building good work opportunities and outcomes.

We focus on creating good work and capitalising on hidden talent – recognising and harnessing the often untapped potential of disadvantaged individuals within the labour force e.g. long-term unemployed, young and mature aged people, those with disabilities, Indigenous communities, veterans, prison leavers, and other culturally and linguistically diverse individuals. GWRG values diversity and inclusivity, acknowledging that talent is not bound by gender, race, or background or typical indicators such as qualifications and experience.

We understand that creating good work goes beyond merely providing a job

Rather, our research focuses on helping employers and other stakeholders to understand, create and sustain good work. In a good work scenario, workers have jobs that not only provide fair compensation but also offer opportunities for personal growth, skill development, and career advancement. Moreover, their jobs provide safety, voice/representation, and a healthy work-life balance.

Why Good Work?

Good work is critical to unlocking the unique skills, abilities, and creativity that each person has to offer, and it benefits workers, organisations and society. Good work benefits individuals and organisations through higher job satisfaction and productivity, and lower absenteeism and turnover. Subsequently, good work creates more competitive economies and improves social mobility. GWRG extends beyond the individual, contributing positively to business and society through ethical practices, social responsibility, and a commitment to improving socio-economic outcomes and overall quality of life.

By fostering an environment that encourages growth, development, and the full utilisation of individual talents, GWRG empowers individuals to reach their fullest potential, ultimately leading to a more vibrant and dynamic workforce and generating benefits for organisations and communities.
